New robotics hubs aim to help UK manufacturers put automation into practice
A new network of eight Robotics Adoption Hubs was announced on 9 October 2026, with £40 million backing practical support for businesses and public services.
The hubs are designed to help organisations understand, assess and adopt robotics, bringing technical expertise and demonstrations closer to potential users.
What will the hubs offer?
UK Research and Innovation says the hubs will help organisations understand the benefits, costs and integration requirements of robotics, identify suitable applications and connect with vendors, integrators and finance providers.
Their focus is on putting proven technologies into use. Support will include demonstrations and opportunities to see robotics operating in practical settings.
There is dedicated manufacturing support within the network. The Yorkshire Robotics Adoption Hub will offer feasibility studies, business case development, demonstrations, deployment support and workforce training. Welsh manufacturers will also have access to hubs providing practical guidance and support.
A useful starting point for manufacturers
Our view is that the strongest automation discussions start with a clearly defined production problem.
For a manufacturer considering a project, useful information to prepare includes:
The task or process that needs improving.
Current cycle times, production volumes and staffing.
Product variation, available space and existing equipment.
Quality, safety and maintenance requirements.
The outcome the business needs to achieve.
That gives advisers and potential suppliers a clearer brief to assess. Manufacturers should contact the relevant hub to confirm its sector coverage, available services and access arrangements.
The announced funding supports the hub network and adoption activity. Businesses should confirm any equipment funding separately when planning investment.
