Writing a great brief

Six specifics that triple your application quality.

1 min readReviewed by the IC team

A clear brief gets you better applications, faster. Always include:

  1. Quantity (one-off, batch, EAU)
  2. Material and grade (e.g. 6082-T6, 316L, PA6-GF30)
  3. Tolerances and surface finish (e.g. ±0.05mm, Ra 1.6)
  4. Drawings or STEP files - one source of truth
  5. Target unit cost or budget bracket
  6. Delivery deadline and any milestones

+ Post a Project
Step 1 of 4

Open the project form

From your dashboard click ‘Post a Project’. The brief is structured so suppliers can scope quickly.

Anti-patterns

  • "ASAP" is not a deadline.
  • "Standard tolerances" - whose standard?
  • "Open to suggestions on material" without a use-case context.

A 60-second briefing call with a project specialist is included on every paid buyer tier - request one from your dashboard.
